Clayton started playing keyboards at the age of 15 replicating sounds from groups like Level 42, ABC, Duran Duran etc. but then in his 20s began studying Jazz, and in particular Gypsy Jazz. It was then that he moved on to play the double bass which became his passion. Since then, Clayton has played with many well known Jazz musicians.
After buying a Hofner bass Clayton could be seen touring clubs and holiday camps with BackBeat, a well known 4 piece 60s/Beatles outfit. Around this time an interest grew with studio production work/session recording and formed Stocks Studio to aid the quest. Although already a busy musician he decided to seek other avenues and so he auditioned for various stage shows and landed a role in an ELVIS production which toured the UK. Since that first tour, which ended back in 1997, Clayton has worked in many other successfull theatre shows and is now in his third year working with the cast of the Billy Fury Years – www.billyfuryuk.com and also with Elvis on Tour www.ontourwithelvis.com
In July 2015, Clayton was appointed Music Director of the up and coming touring theatre show Westrock, featuring the songs of the 70’s and 80’s American Rock.
